Day 1 – Baltimore, MD
This morning we flew from Melbourne, FL to Baltimore, MD via Atlanta on a 6 am flight that was made more palatable by the hour we gained by going off day light saving. We are staying at the Hilton Pier 5 Hotel in the Inner Harbor, one of the few places in Baltimore that it is relatively safe to walk around without an armed escort. It is really a beautiful area and our ship will be docking right outside our hotel on pier 5. The ship will be arriving tonight and we have a balcony room overlooking the harbor so we will be able to sit on our balcony with a glass of wine and watch our ship come in. The first task we undertook after having lunch at Bubba Gump’s, which put out our shrimp low level light, was to locate a Whole Foods where we expected to purchase some wine to enjoy in our room this evening. ‘Unfortunately they didn’t sell wine but referred us to a very nice wine store nearby. Whole Foods is the first super market that we have ever been in that has had armed guards patrolling the store. Sort of tells you a little about Baltimore. Baltimore is a busy city tonight because the Baltimore Ravens are playing the Patriots and the stadium is very close to where we are staying. Fun watching all of the people with their different attire! We have walked 10,600 steps today.
Tomorrow we will be boarding American Cruise Lines ship “American Constitution” for an 11 day Crab fest, American Revolution Cruise along the Chesapeake Bay. This year after hours and hours of ancestry research Holly was able to prove her linage to the Mayflower and was accepted into the Society of Mayflower Descendants. She has also been accepted as a Daughter of the American Revolution so it is only fitting that we do something historical as our Golden Anniversary celebratory year winds down. We will be visiting numerous revolutionary war historical sites as well as listening to reenactors and historians aboard ship.
