Day 11- Annapolis, MD
This morning it was 28 degrees in Annapolis. It has been a long time since I had to put on that many clothes. However the sun was shining brightly, so we pressed onward. We took a tour of the US Naval Academy. Our walking tour covered two miles and we only walked part of the grounds. The Academy receives over 17,000 applications a year. Our guide told us it was wise to have your senator write a recommendation letter for you, but a senator can only send ten letters to each military institution. Her husband worked four years to try to get in but was rejected so he joined the Navy as an enlisted sailor and that is how he got in. Not an easy task. The first two years you only follow orders because they say a great leader must understand the rules. We were bundled up and the naval students were walking around with short sleeves and no gloves.
We visited the church which is beautiful. All students are requested to attend services but they say that is not a problem because it is one time when they can just sit and do nothing. Good way to rest. We saw the crypt of Rear Admiral John Paul Jones a Revolutionary War hero who is known as the father of the US Navy. He never lost a naval battle in his career. His crypt is amazing.
