Day 2 – St Louis - October 6, 2018

Well needless to say yesterday’s news was quite the surprise. Nature has a mind of her own, and we humans are quite powerless against her desires. Tom was on the ball immediately and found us a flight to Minneapolis from Nashville. The silver lining is that we will get to spend the morning with Marcy and Jed in Nashville.

We had some time before our dinner reservations, so we walked to the Gateway Arch and Arch Museum. I was really impressed with the museum and really could have spent all day there. One exhibit caught my eye. They had an old stage coach which I have ridden on before and will tell you they are super rough. Anyway this screen had a woman telling her story of riding the stage from St. Louis to California. She went first class for $7 which meant she got to ride inside the coach the entire trip. Depending on how much you paid you could ride on top of the stage, help drive the horses, or hang on the side, or change out with people and walk some and ride some. Glad travel has improved since then. They changed horses every ten miles and that is when she got out to walk around.

Last night we treated ourselves to a gourmet meal at Carmine’s Steak House which has been family owned since 1934. I usually try to eat healthy but not last night. We started out with toasted ravioli which was created here in St. Louis. It was Yum! Then I had rack of lamb with a raspberry topping, Tom had Steak Carmine which was a filet on top of a crusted brie bed topped with crab. We had to have dessert. We chose whiskey cake smothered with a caramel brown sugar sauce. Great fun!
